Back Fat Liposuction
Stubborn fat deposits can create a bra line bulge where fat seems to be squeezed by your bra straps. Liposuction can help banish pesky back fat. Dr. Smith uses back liposuction to address bra bulges and give you a slimmer, more contoured shape.
Liposuction is a permanent fat loss solution. Wear what you want, when you want. Get proportionate, smooth, uniform, and natural-looking results.
Liposuction For Your Bra Bulge Rolls
For most patients, bra bugle happens when there is an accumulation of fat around the upper and mid-back, the sides of the torso, underarms, or the front of the torso. These annoying fatty deposits are often resistant to diet and exercise alone. Back fat liposuction can permanently remove the unwanted fat that causes bra rolls.
Back fat, bra bulge, or bra rolls often have stubborn layers of fat (subcutaneous fat) or “hard fat” to remove. Dr. Darren Smith provides liposuction of the bra rolls in NYC with meticulous attention to detail for the best results. You’ll be left with a slimmer, smoother, and more proportionate physique.
What Happens During the Procedure?
Back fat lipo is an outpatient procedure, and you will return home the same day. Surgery is done in our modern NYC clinic using a minimally invasive lipo technique. In most cases, Dr. Smith uses tumescent liposuction with a local anesthetic. You’ll be awake during the procedure, but you will not feel pain. If you would like to be asleep or in a”twilight” state, we can arrange this with our board-certified anesthesiologist. This procedure requires a few small incisions in the treatment area. The doctor uses a suctioning device called a cannula to gently break up fat cells and suck them out through the small incisions. The incisions are minor and generally become difficult to see over time. In certain cases, Dr. Smith will use VASER to tighten deep tissue and break up firm fat. BodyTite may also be used in cases where skin tightening will be helpful.
We suggest wearing loose, breathable clothing to your appointment and during the few days of recovery to help keep you as cozy as possible.
Please keep in mind you may not drive after surgery. Instead, we recommend planning to go home under the supervision of a loved one. While you will not have severe pain after the procedure, mild to moderate discomfort is normal. Most patients will also receive prescription pain medications to help ease discomfort for the first few days post-op.
How Long Does it Take to Recover?
If you’re considering liposuction for bra rolls, it’s just as important to understand what happens after surgery as it is to know what goes on during the procedure.
Here’s a breakdown of a typical recovery after back fat liposuction.
1 – 2 Weeks
For the first 48 hours days, you should plan to get some rest, but you can and should be up walking around. You will likely have bruising and swelling. Fluid will likely leak from the incisions. All of this is normal and will subside with time.
Avoid showering for 48 hours after surgery. You’ll also get a tight-fitting compression garment to help reduce swelling and prevent excessive fluid build-up. Depending on the procedure performed, Dr. Smith recommends wearing this garment for between 2 days and 4 weeks. Avoid heavy lifting and exercise during this stage. If you work a desk job, you can reasonably expect to return to work in 48 hours when treated with our methods. If your job involves heavy physical activity, plan to take more time off. Dr. Smith will help you design a strategy that meets your professional needs. After 10-14 days, Dr. Smith will generally clear you to submerge your incisions in a bath, pool, or the ocean.
3 – 4 Weeks
At this point, your swelling and bruising should be significantly improved, and the incisions will be healed. You will begin to see your new shape emerge. You can increase your movement and activity towards baseline with Dr. Smith’s approval at this point. Let your comfort be your guide as you increase your activity level.
Some swelling is still normal as everyone heals at their own pace. After week 4, most postoperative restrictions can be lifted. If you’re unsure of what’s safe and not safe, call our NYC office for clarification. We’re always here to assist.
5 – 6 Weeks
At this point, you will really be fully recovered from bra fat liposuction, although your final results will not be visible for another 6 weeks or so. You should now be able to resume normal activities and begin to enjoy your new toned, slim figure. Some patients may have residual swelling, but you shouldn’t have pain at this stage.
Your body will continue to improve over the coming months. However, keeping up with a healthy lifestyle is suggested to maintain your results.
How Should I Sleep After Back Lipo?
You can sleep in any position that you find comfortable. If you have fat grafting at the same time as this procedure, this may not be the case, and Dr. Smith will guide you accordingly. You should also wear your compression garment to bed.

Am I a Good Candidate for Back Fat Liposuction?
Ideal candidates have a targetted amount of back fat they want to eliminate. Additionally, patients should have good overall health and healthy body weight. Liposuction for bra bulge rolls is meant to remove specific deposits of stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet or training. People who are significantly overweight or obese are at higher risk for complications after this procedure.
Many people have a genetic predisposition to developing back fat even at an ideal weight. If this is the case, liposuction can effectively eliminate your unwanted fat once and for all.
Finally, a good candidate will be someone with realistic expectations. While back fat liposuction can significantly alter your appearance, it’s important to maintain a practical mindset before surgery.
