Dr. Smith uses tumescent liposuction to remove excess fat cells and slim down the calves. Tumescent lipo is the safest and most used liposuction method in the US.

Tumescent liposuction uses a saline solution to numb the treatment area. General anesthesia isn’t required, and liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you’ll return home the same day.
You’ll remain awake, relaxed, and comfortable during your calf lipo procedure. General anesthesia and “twilight” anesthesia are also available for those that desire it. Dr. Smith will make a few small incisions in the treatment area and use a cannula to gently remove unwanted fat from your lower legs. Calf lipo usually takes under 2 hours.
Some patients also have ankle liposuction simultaneously to remove fatty tissue causing cankles or thick ankles.
Scarring from calf lipo is minimal. Most patients will have a few minor incisions that become nearly undetectable once the body is fully healed.

On the day of your lipo procedure, you’ll arrive at our NYC office to discuss the surgery and ask last-minute questions. Most patients receive mild sedatives to ensure they’re comfortable throughout the entire experience.
Immediately after calf lipo, patients stay in one of our recovery rooms for monitoring before being released. You’ll receive full aftercare instructions from Dr. Smith to help ensure the best results.

What’s the Recovery & Downtime for Calf Lipo?

The first two to three days after calf lipo are the most uncomfortable and feel like a tough workout. There is no severe pain. Dr. Smith can prescribe or recommend painkillers to help ease any discomfort.
Most patients can go back to work within 48 hours of the procedures. Heavy exercise should be avoided for at least two weeks, but a light workout is permitted for 4-5 days. You’ll also wear a compression garment for 48 hours after surgery.
Here’s a checklist to follow during your recovery to help speed up the process.
  • Eat a healthy, well-rounded diet.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Get a lot of rest.
  • Wear the compression garment as instructed.
  • Follow any medication instructions.
  • Avoid large amounts of salt in your diet.

Who is a Good Candidate for Calf Liposuction?

Ideal candidates for calf lipo should be in good overall health, close to their ideal body weight, and have good skin elasticity. Liposuction is not a weight-loss tool. To qualify for calf lipo, any excess bulk in your calves must be caused by fat cells. If the bulk is caused by muscle, you may not be eligible for calf lipo. Fat can be liposuctioned; muscle cannot.
