Our commitment

Darren M. Smith, M.D., P.C. is committed to making www.darrensmithmd.com accessible to people with disabilities, including those who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, screen magnification, or other assistive technology. We want every visitor to be able to learn about the practice, review the information on this site, and contact us to request a consultation.

Conformance target

We are working to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. Level AA is the standard most commonly referenced in United States accessibility law and guidance.

Measures we take

The site is built with semantic page structure, including properly ordered headings, landmarks, and labeled form fields, so that assistive technology can interpret the layout and content. Meaningful images, including before-and-after photographs, carry text alternatives, and decorative images are marked so that screen readers skip them. The color palette was chosen with the contrast ratios of WCAG 2.1 Level AA in mind.

We are working toward keyboard operability of every interactive element, including navigation menus and the consultation request form, a visible keyboard focus indicator, text that can be resized with standard browser controls without loss of content or function, and captions on any video added to the site. These are commitments rather than results we have verified by testing.

We do not use an automated accessibility overlay or widget. We address accessibility in the design and code of the site itself, and we intend to review the site against WCAG 2.1 Level AA and correct issues as they are identified.

Known limitations

Despite these efforts, some content on the site may not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. In particular, some older images may lack complete text alternatives, some third-party content embedded on the site may not meet our standards, and documents or media added recently may not yet have been reviewed. Some hero and banner text is placed over photographs, where the contrast between the text and the image behind it varies with the image. We are working to correct these issues and welcome reports of any barrier you encounter.
