There are several factors that determine the total cost of liposuction for the stomach. As each abdominal liposuction procedure is customized to the individual patient’s needs, the cost is similarly individualized based on the specifics of the case to be performed. Again, please keep in mind that these costs vary based on the details of the procedure to be performed.

What the consultation session entails

Liposuction pricing is customized based on the patient’s goals and the procedure that is required to achieve those goals. Before the cost of liposuction can be discussed Dr. Smith must assess the patient to understand his or her desired results and determine how that result can be best achieved. The first step in in understanding liposuction pricing is to arrange a consultation session at our NYC clinic. Dr. Smith will then have a one-on-one consultation with the patient who is to undergo stomach liposuction and design a customized treatment plan. A general idea of abdominal liposuction pricing can be provided by our liposuction pricing calculator.

While we prefer an in-person consultation, virtual consultations are available. We do ask that the patient email us photos of the treatment area prior to a virtual consultation. Once the session begins, the conversation will revolve around the patient’s goals, medical history, and finally, an examination of the area to undergo surgery. We also offer 3D imaging to offer a simulation of possible results so you can decide on your ideal aesthetic outcome with Dr. Smith.

Of course, a physical examination and 3D imaging is only possible with an in-person consultation. For virtual consultations, an in-person exam will be arranged prior to any procedure.

Once your goals have been identified and discussed with Dr. Smith, we will review how the procedure is performed and what you can expect during the preoperative period and recovery.

What makes one an ideal stomach liposuction candidate?

  • The patient should be as close to his or her ideal weight as possible, and stable at that weight for several month.must be at least 30% within their ideal weight.

  • They should have good skin tone and elasticity to allow for skin contraction after the procedure. If this is not the case, additional procedures may be recommended to achieve the best result, such as radio frequency skin tightening.

  • The patient should be in good general health and not have any unmanaged medical conditions. They must not smoke

  • An individual patient’s suitability for stomach liposuction will be determined on an individual basis with Dr. Smith. Safety is always our number one priority.

Factors that might make stomach liposuction problematiclay disqualify you from getting the surgery

  • The patient is far from his or her goal weight

  • There are untreated medical problems

  • There are untreated psychiatric problems

Essential information shared during the consultation

In addition to discussing the patient’s goals and assessing his or her fitness for stomach liposuction, Dr. Smith will make sure you have a clear picture of how the procedure is performed and what can be expected at each step of the way.

Along these lines, one of the key decisions to be made in terms of your stomach liposuction experience is the kind of anesthesia you will have. There are essentially three options in terms of anesthesia type: local anesthesia, IV sedation (“twilight anesthesia”), and general anesthesia. In local anesthesia, you remain fully awake and a numbing solution is used to ensure that you have only minimal discomfort during the procedure. Oral medications like valium can be taken to help you relax during the procedure. In IV sedation, you are awake and breathing on your own, but in addition to numbing solution, medications are given through an IV to make you feel very calm and be less aware of the procedure. During general anesthesia, you are completely asleep and a machine is used to help you breathe. Dr. Smith will review your specific case to help you choose the best kind of anesthesia for you.

Dr. Smith will also discuss the steps of the procedure and the expected duration of your case. In general, abdominal liposuction can be performed in under an hour. Combining stomach liposuction with liposuction  of other areas (most frequently the waist) adds to the operative time. The size of the area being treated also comes into play in determining operative time: the larger the area of treatment, the longer the procedure. Similarly, if you have had other operative procedures on your stomach, this could increase operative time as it may increase the complexity of the procedure.

Dr. Smith  will also discuss where your stomach liposuction will be performed during your consultation with Dr. Smith. Virtually all of our procedures are performed in our private, state-of-the-art AAAASF operating room.

What to expect

As part of your consultation with Dr. Darren Smith, he will walk you through the entire procedure from start to finish. The general flow of events in stomach liposuction is as follows:

  • Before the procedure, Dr. Smith will meet with you to finalize your surgical plan, draw your markings for the procedure, and take your preoperative photos.

  • Next, Dr. Smith’s team will guide you back to the operating room.

  • If the patient chose IV sedation or general anesthesia, a board certified anesthesiologist will administer the appropriate medications. If local anesthesia was selected, Dr. Smith will introduce the anesthesia fluid (tumescent solution) to the abdomen through small,

  • well-hidden access sites. This step will be performed after general anesthesia or IV sedation is started for patients choosing those anesthesia modalities.

  • Next, a long, thin instrument called a cannula is used to suction unwanted fat from the stomach region.

  • Finally, the access points are closed and a compression garment is placed.

  • At the conclusion of the procedure, the patient will rest in our recovery room and then return home.

How the cost of stomach liposuction is determined

There are several factors that determine the total cost of liposuction for the stomach. As each abdominal liposuction procedure is customized to the individual patient’s needs, the cost is similarly individualized based on the specifics of the case to be performed.

Quotes for surgical procedures with Dr. Darren Smith are comprised of three elements:

Surgeon’s fee

This fee covers the cost of the procedure itself and reflects Dr. Smith’s reputation as one of the top plastic surgeons in New York City. If additional areas of liposuction are performed, or additional procedures are incorporated into the treatment plan, the surgeon’s fee will reflect this as well.

Anesthesia fee

In cases using general anesthesia or IV sedation, a board certified anesthesiologist is present to administer these treatments. The anesthesia fee covers the cost of the anesthesiologist’s expertise as well as his or her medications and supplies.

Operating room fee

The operating room fee, sometimes referred to as a “facility fee,” covers the costs of being in the operating room. These range from staff to materials to the maintenance of accreditation.

Other fee

Other possible fees may be incurred for advanced compression garments and optional post-operative treatments like Emtone, Emsculpt Neo or lymphatic massage.

Ways to pay for liposuction for the stomach

We recognize that liposuction can be expensive, and that Dr. Smith is on the higher end of the pricing spectrum due to his experience and reputation for surgical excellence. Dr. Smith feels strongly that no patient should ever feel like they “need” aesthetic surgery, and that liposuction of the stomach and other aesthetic plastic surgery procedures should be undertaken only when the patient is financially comfortable doing so. We do offer several forms of financing for patients that would benefit from flexibility in managing their liposuction expenses.
