Having asymmetrical breasts can make a woman feel self-conscious and make it difficult to find bras that fit. Breast asymmetry correction in New York is a surgical procedure to address this problem. Depending on the patient’s anatomy and aesthetic goals, the procedure may involve any or a combination of breast augmentation, breast reduction, or breast lift techniques.

What is breast asymmetry?

Breast asymmetry can be defined as a difference in the volume, form, or position of the breasts. It is a common condition, with some mild asymmetry existing in the majority of women. Small differences in shape or size are not usually a matter of concern. However, differences between the breasts greater than a bra cup size can be a problem.

What is recovery like after breast asymmetry correction in NYC?

  • You can expect to experience some swelling, bruising, and soreness after breast surgery. Pain and discomfort can be controlled with medications.
  • Get plenty of rest and avoid any activity that requires you to lift heavy objects or stretch to extreme positions. It is a good idea to have someone there to take care of things for you while you recover for the first few days.
  • You will need to wear a support bandage and / or support bra for a few weeks after the procedure.
  • If your incisions were closed with non-dissolvable sutures, they will need to be removed approximately 10 days after the operation.
  • Drink plenty of water and wear comfortable, loose clothing.
  • If you work in an office at a desk job, you should be able to return to work in approximately five to seven days after surgery. If your job requires lifting or physical activity, you may need an additional week to recover.

Who is a good candidate for breast asymmetry correction?

Candidates for breast surgery should be non-smokers in good general health. You may be a candidate for breast asymmetry correction in NYC if you want a size increase or decrease in one of your breasts or want a more uniform appearance of the areolas and nipples.

What if you want to augment both of your breasts, but one is larger than the other?

Two different sized breast implants can be placed to improve symmetry and add volume at the same time. If saline implants are used, they can be filled after placement, which allows for greater control over the size increase in each breast.

Can fat grafting be used for breast asymmetry correction?

Yes. Autologous fat grafting can be performed to moderately increase the size of the smaller breast (by one to two cup sizes). To be a good candidate for fat grafting, you need sufficient fat for harvesting in another area of the body, such as the belly, hips, flanks, or thighs.
